Talking to Myself

It seems like when I was a kid, M&Ms tasted better than they do now. I remember each one being this cold little perfect spheroid chocolate particle, but they’re different to me now. They’re brittle and stale, with a sharp, chalky chocolate inside. The kind of chocolate I associate with unpleasant Valentine’s candy, or how I imagine the chocolate in Advent calendars must taste. What’s worse, I can’t tell if they’ve gotten worse or my sense of taste has changed. I know those both must be true to some extent, but I can’t be sure about my sense of taste without going back in time, and as far as I know, there aren’t preserved samples of past M&Ms stored cryogenically anywhere. I guess history doesn’t remember flavors.

I was talking to somebody online earlier, and I used this sentence:

“the fuck i ain’t gonna eat more”

And I realized that unless you were a natural-born English speaker, there’s little possibility you’d understand that. It’s so mired in these overlapping colloquial expressions and bizarre grammatical twists that the meaning’s essentially buried. I want somebody who studies linguistics to diagram that for me. Then maybe it should go on a t-shirt. Then maybe that t-shirt should go on a torso. Maybe.

Well, it seems I’ve got a website all of a sudden. I’ve been hearing about these “web-blogs” for a while now, so I figured I’d better get on the boat before everybody else has one. This blog is actually a placeholder until I design a more complete site, but knowing me, that might be a while. More important right now is getting episode 1 out; I’ll start recording it tomorrow.

I’m almost there; I can smell it.
